Turkic World Common Textbooks Workshop, hosted by the Ministry of National Education of Republic of Türkiye, started.
INTERNATIONAL TURKIC ACADEMY COMMON TEXTBOOKS WORKSHOP

A workshop with broad participation was held in Istanbul in order to make the final evaluation of the common Turkic history, geography of the Turkic world and common Turkic literature course curricula and draft textbooks prepared by the International Turkic Academy within the scope of the decisions taken at the Organization of Turkic States summits. Experts and education ministries officials from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, as well as the Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States Baghdad Amreyev, the President of the International Turkic Academy Darhan Kıdırali, and the Deputy Minister of National Education Petek Aşkar attended the two-day workshop hosted by Türkiye.

 

In her speech at the opening of the workshop, Deputy Minister Aşkar stated that the "common Turkic history course" had been added to the Primary Education Institutions Weekly Course Schedule as an elective course for the 8th grades as of the 2018-2019 academic year and this course was selected by approximately 30 thousand students in the 2018-2019 academic year, and nearly 38 thousand students in the 2019-2020 academic year, 48 thousand students in the 2020-2021 academic year, and 49 thousand students in the 2021-2022 academic year. Aşkar expressed that it was decided to teach the said course at the high school level starting from the next academic year. In addition, Aşkar stated that "Turkic world geography" and "common Turkic literature" courses were added to the weekly course schedules applied in secondary education institutions together with the "common Turkic history" and the decision to add these courses as elective courses in the 9th, 10th and 11th grades as of the 2022-2023 academic year was made.

 

Deputy Minister Aşkar emphasized that the decisions to be taken as a result of this workshop will make significant contributions to the youth of the Turkic world to grow up as wise all over the world, productive, sharing, participatory, knowing their self-identities, respectful to cultural values and loyal to their own history.

 

At the end of the workshop, it is aimed that the common Turkic history, geography of the Turkic world and common Turkic literature courses and draft textbooks prepared with the contributions of the member countries under the coordination of the Turkic Academy would be taught as elective courses in the secondary education institutions of the member countries starting from the 2022-2023 academic year.
