During the meeting, held in MoNa Tevfik İleri conference hall, existing cooperation between the Ministry of National Education and the European Training Foundation (EFT) was evaluated and new cooperation issues were discussed.

 

Minister Özer provided information on vocational training policies and practices during the meeting. Minister Özer stated that there has been a considerable decrease in vocational orientation due to the coefficient barrier in the past years. As a result of this situation, the quality of vocational schools was negatively affected and they were not able to meet the labor market standards of alumni.

 

Minister Özer explained that after the resolution of the coefficient problem, there has been great progress in vocational training by cooperating with the sector, and under the scope of protocols signed with the leading representatives of the sector, the schedule was updated, workplace training was planned, scholarships were given to the successful students, teachers were supported on job shadowing and employment opportunities were enhanced.

 

Minister Özer emphasized that as a result of all these steps orientation to vocational education has increased significantly within the last two years. Minister Özer underlined that increasing production capacity of vocational schools within the scope of revolving funds, students learn actively and develop their practice skills and also make significant contribution to the country's economy. Özer stated that 1 billion 162 million TL production was achieved in 2021.

 

Özer stated that production of masks and other products produced by vocational schools and their support of public health affected public view positively towards vocational schools.

 

In his speech, Özer figured that an average of 200 patents have been obtained per year within two years. He also added that 52 R&D Centers have been established in successful vocational high schools. Özer also emphasized the importance of vocational training centers and the support given to these centers.

 

Director of European Training Foundation Xavier Matheu de Cortada stated that they attach great importance to Türkiye and  first visit they pay is to Türkiye after the pandemic era and he added that they work to become an information center consulted by other countries in the field of vocational education and they also can benefit from the knowledge and experience of member countries in this direction.

 

In this regard, Cortado stated that to share good practices, they pursue vocational training practices of other member countries and the monitoring process continues within the framework of the Osnabrück Declaration and recommendations.

 

Cortado also invited Minister Özer to Turin, where the EFT center is located. Özer  stated that he would be pleased with the visit in the condition of it being in line with his schedule.

Deputy Ministers Petek Aşkar, Sadri Şensoy, and Hasan Ünsal, Director General of EU and Foreign Relations, and Nazan Şener, Director General of Vocational and Technical Education attended the meeting held between delegations.
