MINISTER ÖZER VISITED WORLD HORTI CENTER WHERE INNOVATIVE AGRICULTURE METHODS ARE PRACTICES IN HOLLAND
As a part of his visit to Holland, Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer visited the World Horti Center in Naaldwijk where agriculture, industry and education sectors carried out joint studies and which also served as a vocational school.As the first stop of his visit to Holland, Minister Özer visited the World Horti Center in Naaldwijk where researchers, entrepreneurs and various different education institutions carried out joint innovative studies, innovative agriculture methods are practiced and which is also used as a vocational school.
Minister Özer received information about new developments in agriculture and water technologies, 38 different researches and studies carried out in the center and greenhouse based technologies during his visit.
Meanwhile, the Lentiz Schools Executive Board Chairman Rick Van Dam stated that there are 60 schools affiliated to their center all around the country and cooperated with private sector representatives at the center. Noting that 40 percent of the population of Holland studied at the vocational education institutions, Dam stated that vocational education is the backbone of the country's economy. Dam added that they carried out R&D studies in cooperation with the private sector.
Minister Özer shared information about vocational education data in Türkiye and said that there are 1.2 million teachers and 19 million students in the education system of the country. He noted that approximately 3 million students are enrolled in vocational education institutions and vocational education in Türkiye is going through a reconstruction.
Özer went on to say that, "We are giving education to vocational education students in line with the demands of the labor market. We have been carrying out important campaigns since last year after making required amendments in the related law. Türkiye is an agriculture and husbandry country. Due to this reason, we are giving special importance to improving the capacity in this field. There are 146 schools that provide agricultural vocational education. 30 thousand students are enrolled in these schools. We have signed a cooperation protocol with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry two months ago in order to carry out the management of these schools together. We planned to inaugurate new R&D centers in the agricultural vocational schools. We can conduct joint studies in these centers."
Later, Minister Özer visited R&D center labs and chatted with students.
Deputy Minister of National Education Sadri Şensoy, Director General for Vocational and Technical Education Nazan Şener, Director General for EU and Foreign Relations Hasan Ünsal, Lahey Education Attaché Miyase Kaya, Amsterdam Education Undersecretary Anıl Yılmaz and Rick Van Dam accompanied Özer during the visit.
Annually, 25 thousand international professionals visit the World Horti Center which has 38 greenhouses and is involved in cooperation with different universities. The center aims at making a contribution to sustainable food supply and making the world greener.
