Many education, research and health centers both in Türkiye and abroad are named after Sancar after he won the Nobel Prize.
"It is such a great honor. The Aziz Sancar Education Center is the biggest of all and I believe that it will serve the development of science. Appreciation of my country honors me. This interest is more important than winning ten prizes. 85 million people living in my country know that I love Türkiye, I serve Türkiye and I consider my success as the success of Türkiye," said Sancar.
He pointed out that although he carried out his scientific research in the US, he had learned the scientific method here in Türkiye.
I wish I would have won the Nobel Prize 25 years ago
Sancar said that he would support R&D activities and scientific research that will be carried out in the education campus adding that, "I wish I had won the Nobel Prize 25 years ago. I am 75 years old and it is hard for me to travel. Due to this reason, I will support scientific studies in my country and Aziz Sancar Education Campus from a distance."
Sancar noted that TÜBİTAK has established a new program and will send researchers to the US to work with him.
"We have developed the Piri Reis Map method which is used by my students in China, Korea and also in Türkiye. I hope that my future students from Türkiye will learn and use this method," said Sancar.
